Program Description

Since hosting North America's first intercollegiate track and field meet in 1865, the University of Toronto's track and field program has grown in reputation and success. Members of Varsity Blues teams have been Olympians, Commonwealth Games athletes, World University Games team members, Pan Am athletes, as well as provincial, national and international record holders.

The impact of excellent coaching on the Varsity team has been notable throughout the years. U of T teams, nicknamed the 'Blues', participated in every varsity outdoor championship, from the inaugural competition in 1899 until they ended in 1987. The Blues can boast of 138 league and national titles, by far the best record of any Ontario university. Athletes are attracted to the history of the U of T program and the quality of our coaches, although, the secret of our success is, and always will be, the quality of the athletes who make up the program.

Carl Georgevski has been coaching the Blues since 1980. A former Varsity Blues athlete himself, Georgevski was a very successful high jumper. Today, he leads a group of dedicated instructors and mentors who are nationally and internationally recognized. Many members of the coaching staff have progressed through the Varsity Blues program and fully embrace its student athlete focused approach.

The University of Toronto men's and women's cross country and indoor track and field teams, form the heart of our entire system. Collectively known as Toronto Track, the teams practice on the 200 metre indoor surface in the Field House, located at the intersection of Harbord and Spadina, and outdoors at the new Varsity Centre, located at the intersection of Bedford and Bloor.
